The above video is rough and ready Flip camera footage from my 15 minute session on instructional design at the recent PCMA annual conference. This was part of the Learning Lounge put together by the folks over at Velvet Chainsaw, who did an excellent job. We’ve surveyed and interviewed thousands of association learners as part of our client work, and one point that comes through consistently is that conference and seminar sessions for most associations are of highly variable quality. More importantly, their actual educational impact is not what it could be. While there is nothing I say in this session that qualifies as rocket science, the practices I highlight are ones that can make a significant difference. I hope the video will be of some small value to association meeting and education staff as well as to presenters.
